The Paint Horse Gallery 2008 Art Show

ART IN THE FAMILY
Kirby Sattler And Kay Lynne Sattler Join Paint Horse Gallery
Breckenridge, CO (January 10, 2008 ) - The Paint Horse Gallery of Breckenridge is proud to represent the art works of internationally recognized artists, brother and sister, Kirby Sattler and Kay Lynne Sattler.
The first time in their established careers, the Sattler sibling duo will be exhibiting their art works together.
While Kirby is a realist painter, Kay Lynne is a sculptural clay artist. Throughout the years the sister and the brother influenced and inspired each other's work with intermittent collaboration and a constant dialog. Although their mediums differ, the mythology of man is a common theme that propels their work.
Uniquely his own, Kirby's ultra-realistic style of painting results in rich in texture soulful portraits of the Indians of the American Plains. His detailed interpretations contemplate and reflect on personal and cultural identity of the subject. In spite of the artist’s intentional avoidance of the public, Kirby’s paintings have found a worldwide audience.
Kay Lynne's signature pieces combine the primitive form of hand-coiled clay with the ancient art of precious metal gilding. Her extensive exploration of technique and material exemplifies how traditional ceramics can be transformed through skill and imagination creating extraordinary sculptural works. Recognized as one of Hawaii's premier contemporary clay artists, Kay Lynne has generated international recognition as well.
The owners of Paint Horse Gallery, Bert and Marti Bergland, invite you to view this collection by the sibling artist duo this winter and spring 2008.
The gallery is located at: 100 North Main Street, 104 Towne Square
Mall, Breckenridge, Colorado 80424
Phone: (970) 453-6813
Hours: 11:00 am to 7:00 pm daily.

Technique and Inspiration

The artist states:
“I have always had an interest in indigenous cultures, their costumes and their relationship with nature. Growing up in the west offered countless museum collections and access to libraries filled with artifacts and research materials. It was natural for me to study the Plains Indians. The writings of Joseph Campbell continue as a major influence for my work.”

Sattler’s portraits have evolved over the 30 years of perfecting the technique. He is not mainly concerned with being historically accurate. His art interpretations give a feeling of authenticity without being specific to a particular tribe.

The paintings begin with reference materials, finding a visual to inspire an image. The composites of facial features from different sources; books, fotos, models, imagination, combined, result into a simple rough sketch on the canvas, establishing the scale and composition of the painting. Next is an underpainting to establish values, then, the process of layering begins.
Every painting has countless numbers of washes, varying the degrees of opacity and transparency to achieve depth, working light to dark, dark to light, continually adding highlights and details until the desired effect is obtained. Every canvas has as many as two dozen layers on any part of the painting.

Sattler prefers working with Golden heavy bodied acrylics on linen canvas. the palette consists of titanium white, cadium yellow, yellow oxide, yellow ochre, raw sienna, raw umber, burnt sienna, ultramarine blue, cadium red and carbon black. He thins the paints with water only, mixing colors from varying degrees of opaqueness to transparent washes. he uses from 4 inch house brushes to 10/0 liners.

Lucien Freud Quote

The Artist's favorite quote.

“A moment of complete happiness never occurs in the creation of a work of art. The promise of it is felt in the act of creation, but disappears towards the completion of the work. For it is then that the painter realizes that is is only a picture he is painting. Until then he had almost dared to hope that the painting might spring to life.”
Lucien Freud

First Female Subject

Last May Mr. Sattler diverged from his usual subject: the male Native American.

The artist is proud to present, for the first time, an image portraying a female American Indian.

This image was selected for both the 2006 Colorado Territory Days poster and t-shirt. It is available for purchase here: http://sattlerartprint.com

Water For Fuel Browns Gas Info At Teslatech Conference

Here’s some videos and an interview we did with Chris Eckman who did a presentation about Browns Gas at the Teslatech Extraordinary Technology Conference in New Mexico this past month. Chris is a young guy but don’t be fooled he brings a solid scientific background to this subject. Browns gas is a fuel gas made from water and electricity but it does not perform like Hydrogen like many researchers think.
